Birthday lunch at Trof with my fam today. Sunday lunch was a cut above - I had the pork, the baby had the beef and the two veggies had the chestnut roast. Mouth-filling, and definitely not the average 'pub Sunday lunch' which can so often be a bit sad and meh. Lovely, friendly service and nice convivial buzz throughout.Google review · L.C. · verbatim

Visiting Manchester, United Kingdom? Northern Quarter — Indie, creative, cocktail culture — is the neighbourhood with 14 ranked independent restaurants and bars our review-velocity ranking is tracking right now. Rankings refreshed monthly from 20,944 live reviews — no national chains, no ads.

Northern Quarter runs on red brick alleys, scuffed floorboards, and kitchens that stay open well past midnight. You can spend an entire afternoon walking between Oldham St and Thomas St without touching a corporate chain. Start early near High St where Purezza serves sourdough pies for €14. By 14:00, the queue forms outside Northern Soul Grilled Cheese on Tib St for €9 melts loaded with jalapeños and three-cheese blends. When you want stacked double-patty beef dripping in peppered mayo, head over to Edge St for Almost Famous around 18:00 before the dinner tables fill up. For drinks, Thomas St remains the central spine. Trof pours cask ales across multiple levels until late, while The Whiskey Jar on Tariff St opens its basement for drams and acoustic sets after 21:00. If you want retro consoles with your pint, Stevenson Square holds NQ64 until 02:00. It is loud, unapologetic, and consistently reliable when you know which door to push.

Ask DOW on ChatGPT

DOW ranks venues with a 100-point Hot Score, recalculated monthly from live Google data. Three signals, in this order: written review activity — text reviews over 50 characters in the last 90 days, the heaviest by some distance; the standing Google rating from 4.0 up; and Google Business Profile completeness — phone, website, opening hours, description, photos and categories. In Portugal and Spain, reviews written in the city's own language carry more weight than English ones. We don't publish the exact weightings: a formula you can compute backwards is one you can farm. No editorial picks, no paid placements, no national chains.
